Wood Pedestal Base FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between your single and double wood pedestal table bases?
Our Single Pedestal Base is ideal for smaller rectangular tables and most round tabletops, giving you a bold central support with tons of legroom. The Double Pedestal Base Set includes two handcrafted bases and a 31" long support, making it a great choice for full-size dining tables where you want extra stability along the length of the table. Both options are handcrafted in our North Carolina shop from American knotty pine and are designed to work with a wide range of custom tabletops.
Are your wood pedestal table bases strong enough for solid wood or live-edge tops?
Yes. Our wood pedestal table bases are built from solid American knotty pine and go through multiple operations in our NC shop to create a heavy-duty, structurally sound base. They’re designed to support substantial solid wood and live-edge tops when paired with a proper mounting arm or sub-frame. For extremely thick or extra-large tops, send us your dimensions and approximate weight so we can confirm which base option is the best fit.
Do the pedestal bases come finished or unfinished? Can I stain or paint them?
Our pedestal table bases ship unfinished so you can finish them to match your space. Knotty pine takes both stain and paint beautifully—its natural yellow and caramel tones with tight red knots create an incredible rustic look when stained, and it also covers well under paint if you’re going for a more modern aesthetic. We recommend a light sanding and then a quality stain, paint, and clear topcoat for long-term durability.
How do I attach my tabletop to a Carolina Leg Co pedestal base?
We intentionally do not include a mounting arm or support plate, because every table build is different. You’ll provide your own support arm (typically a sturdy wood or metal stretcher) sized to your tabletop. Each pedestal base is attached securely to the support arm, and then the tabletop is fastened to that arm from underneath using appropriate wood screws or hardware. Because every project is unique, we always recommend following best woodworking practices and, for very heavy or stone tops, consulting with a local builder or fabricator.
Do you offer free shipping, and what is your lead time on pedestal table bases?
All of our wood pedestal table bases ship free within the domestic U.S. via UPS Ground.Carolina Leg Co Current lead time on pedestal bases is typically 4–5 weeks, as each base is handcrafted to order in our North Carolina shop. If you’re working against a specific deadline (holidays, events, etc.), feel free to reach out before ordering so we can confirm timing.
Can I use these wood pedestal bases for an outdoor dining table?
Our pedestal bases are crafted from solid knotty pine, which is intended primarily for indoor use. Some customers do use them in covered outdoor spaces, but if you plan to put your table outside we strongly recommend a high-quality exterior-grade finish and keeping the base protected from standing water and direct weather whenever possible. For fully exposed outdoor use, we suggest consulting with your finisher or builder about the best protective coatings and maintenance schedule.
